Senior DevOps Security & Compliance Expert (m/f/d)

The Mission

We are looking for talented DevOps Engineers with demonstrated real-world experience to help us design, implement and maintain the infrastructure at the core of our satellite constellation’s operations. 
As a key member of our team, you'll ensure that our infrastructure and operations meet the highest levels of reliability and scalability, directly supporting our space-based sensor network and its on-ground development platform. Your work will help us continuously improve our ability to monitor and respond to wildfires, safeguarding communities, wildlife, and ecosystems worldwide.

What you’ll be doing

For our cross-functional infrastructure and operations team, we’re seeking someone who is proactive, organized, and able to drive the development and optimization of our infrastructure with a holistic mindset.

Infrastructure & Architecture:

  • Implement, monitor, and manage scalable, highly available systems on diverse platforms (cloud or Hardware-in-the-loop lab setups).

  • Employ infrastructure-as-code to build and maintain robust environments.

  • Work with various data storage solutions (Database, S3), ensuring optimal configuration, performance, and reliability.

  • Design scalable and highly available solutions for critical production environments or create and maintain development infrastructure.

Operations & Reliability:

  • Operate and maintain software components, ensuring compliance with reliability requirements.

  • Set up, maintain, and refine monitoring and logging solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, etc.) to guarantee service level objectives (SLOs) are met.

  • Advocate for best practices and ensure operational excellence, responding quickly to high-impact issues and bugs.

Compliance & Security:

  • Drive initiatives to meet compliance frameworks (e.g. FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO, ESA CCM) and maintain documentation for audits.

  • Build and operate security-focused infrastructure components that support certification and trust requirements.

  • Develop OroraTech’s Trust Center, ensuring transparency and reliability for customers and partners.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to simplify compliance processes and improve overall platform stability.

  • Evaluate customer security and compliance requirements and derive internal measures for compliance


Collaboration & Process:

  • Collaborate closely with development, QA as part of product teams to integrate DevOps practices throughout the organization.

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI), ensuring seamless code deployment and robust test automation.

  • Document infrastructure, tools, and processes thoroughly, fostering knowledge sharing and consistency.


Relevant Skills

We expect that you bring the following:

  • Real-world experience managing production grade infrastructure under real-world load conditions.

  • Advanced Linux knowledge for system configuration, networking, and packaging (Docker, Nix)

  • Expertise with major cloud platforms and container orchestration and Infrastructure as Code.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python) to automate operational tasks.

  • Familiarity with Git-based workflows and continuous integration/delivery pipelines (GitLab CI).

  • Experience with security and compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO, FedRAMP, SOC 2, ESA CCM) and readiness to support audits.

  • Understanding of load balancing, scalability mechanisms, and best practices in security.

  • Strong problem solving capabilities & proactive communication in a ticket-based, agile software development environment.

  • University degree in Computer Science, STEM/MINT, or equivalent work experience.

  • Fluent in English, German is a plus

We also highly appreciate and foster the following skills:

  • Experience with geospatial data and spatial databases (PostGIS or similar)

  • Familiarity with microservice architecture and application monitoring technologies

  • Expertise with CI/CD processes and technologies (Gitlab, Jenkins, or similar)

  • Familiarity with basic DevOps technologies and concepts

  • Familiarity with UI/UX principles and design processes

  • Open-source contributions
