Launching FOREST-3

January 15, 2025

FOREST-3 is OroraTech’s third thermal-infrared satellite, launched on January 14, 2025, aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-12 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base. This 8U CubeSat is equipped with advanced infrared sensors and onboard processing capabilities, enabling near-real-time wildfire detection and alerting services worldwide. As part of OroraTech’s growing constellation, FOREST-3 enhances global wildfire monitoring efforts, contributing to faster response times and improved environmental protection.

To kick off our launch, about two weeks out, we decided to set the vibe: a curated playlist celebrating satellites, space, and the spirit of wildfire resilience on Spotify.

As launch day approached, we shared the animated FOREST-3 mission patch, giving a glimpse into the design’s meaning and the story it tells.

In the final countdown, we captured the voices behind FOREST-3.

A special video featured Martin, Katja, Thomas, and Pia sharing what FOREST-3 means for the future of OroraTech.

OroraTech Brings World’s Largest Wildfire Satellite Constellation to the United States

OroraTech, a Munich-based leader in wildfire intelligence, has launched its U.S. headquarters in Denver, Colorado, as part of its mission to strengthen wildfire resilience across the United States. The company brings the world’s largest satellite constellation dedicated to wildfire detection—combining 10 proprietary satellites with over 30 public sources—to provide real-time thermal imaging, predictive modeling, and rapid situational awareness. This space-based system enables emergency responders and government agencies to act faster and more effectively during fire events. The expansion is already gaining traction, with Larimer County, Colorado, becoming an early customer through OroraTech’s Wildfire Solution Coop program. The move reflects growing demand for proactive fire management tools in the wake of disasters like the $135 billion LA fires of 2025. OroraTech also recently secured a €20 million contract with the Greek government for a national wildfire early warning system, underscoring its global reach and technological leadership in climate resilience.
